I recently came back from a mini break to Whitby with my mum (which was my only holiday this year!) and the weather there was, well....not exactly beach weather!! After we all enjoyed a few late September days of glorious sunshine and high temperatures, the weather then decided to do a complete 360 and we drove to Whitby in the rain and much cooler temperatures....followed by gale force winds of 57mph with torrential rain thrown in a couple of days later - it was WILD!!!
My mum kept saying how disappointed she was for me that the weather couldn't hold out for just a few more days so that I could have had a proper 'by the sea' holiday experience, but to be honest I have never laughed so much on holiday!! I thought the wind and rain were hilarious...just trying to cross the road at one point was a major mission and people were hanging onto lamp posts for dear life, but everyone was laughing so much!
It made me think about God and His creation, that He's not just in the still and tranquil beauty of a sunset-lit beach where the waves are gently lapping at the shore - He's in the storms and the rain, and the wind that threatens to fly you like a kite! I love God's creation, I love our crazy weather, I love that I can walk and see and feel because that in itself is a miracle.
Life isn't always what we expect but God is always there with us; through the storms and the difficult seasons, but also laughing with us during the good times. He is there through it all. He will NEVER leave us or forsake us. He is our rock and our joie de vivre.
That certainly does look a 'stormy' photo Ally! Thank you for the reflection. There is something exhilarating about the wind, perhaps the idea of allowing any stress or worry to 'blow away', feeling a 'mini-miracle' as you describe, in that brief moment when we 'turn our face to the wind'. Glad to hear that all went well!
