The beauty of the Christmas story is that it can capture our hearts and minds with its profound simplicity amid the complexities and challenges of modern daily life.
We hear of how the divine steers the path of Joseph and Mary to safety, how the infant Jesus comes to no harm at the hands of Herod and his wicked agenda. How the shepherds are instructed to 'fear not'. How the promise of peace is fulfilled. There is, as Elizabeth of the Trinity identified, a gentle yet overwhelming call of 'Light, Life and Love' at work.
That gentle call rests on us too today, inviting us to know hope and direction afresh. To enter into the simplicity of relationship before the stable over any worry, noise and ambition. To embrace 'the Light' that makes our individual and our collective course of travel much easier.
We pray on this holy night that we might all know something of the peace and the stillness of Christmas and that we respond to those 'radiant beams from thy holy face' with courage in the weeks and the months ahead.
A Joyful Christmas to you all! From the AECI
