Today (Friday 14th August 2020) the Church recalls the life, the courage and the martyrdom of Polish priest, Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941). His steadfast commitment to the Gospel remains a beacon to those who fight persecution and hatred in our divided and troubled world. At the beginning of 2019, Kolbe was one of ten figures to be unveiled in statue form at Westminister Abbey, London. The '10 Modern Martyrs' are a reminder to us today of the call of 'truth' to speak to 'power' and the ongoing need to challenge injustice and oppression within political systems and ideologies:.
