Week 3 : Benevolence
'Reach for a Benevolence
Bridging the ache for lasting compassion
A fair patience seeps in.
To break thus
Into a Benevolence without trepidation
Is conversing with the pure heart
An unfolding victory.
Here, straighten your spine
At the foot of Splendour’s heights
Your Star shines far,
And exalts good things to contemplate.
Today,
Be no more of this raging earth
You have everything one needs to rejuvenate'
In the relatively short letter of James, the writer appeals to the early Christian community and those beyond to find a level of 'patience' and 'firmness of heart' as they wait to receive the coming of the Lord (James 5:7-8)
He suggests that one should observe 'the farmer' awaiting the 'precious fruit of the earth' despite the changing weather conditions and little obvious signs of growth. The farmer knows that 'goodness' has not vanished. It is working within a sacred timeframe to flourish and to advance further.
In our Advent journey, we recognise our need to hold to the source of 'Benevolence' and 'Love'. St Elizabeth of the Trinity reminds us that we can take that step towards victory, with a heart and a soul open to the divine making 'a home within us'.
This coming week, be not afraid of 'conversing with your heart' and its benevolent nature.
